Programme Note
Lewisham Choral Society are excited to return to St John’s Smith Square following last summer's performance of Handel’s Dixit Dominus.
This year’s concert showcases some of the very best of the modern choral repertoire: Aaron Copland’s exquisite setting of the biblical text In the Beginning, for mezzo-soprano and choir, Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, Eric Whitacre’s serene Sleep, Samuel Barber’s poignant song of love and loss To be Sung on the Water, rhythmic songs by minimalist composer Philip Glass, and a lively Fancy of Folksongs by Cecilia McDowall.
